OUR TAKE: The unique construction of TaylorMade’s Spider S putters not only help boost stability in the heads, but our testers found the design to improve alignment, too. “The open section in the back of the flange helps frame the ball at address as well as any putter I tested today,” one tester said. Being that our testers each hit dozens of putters each during our ClubTest, those are big words, but TaylorMade does call the new Spider S its most forgiving putter.
THE DETAILS: The open section in the flange of the heads, and the white colored True Path alignment aid on the crown, both measure the width of a golf ball. As our testers found out, the new design helps to ensure the ball is lined up directly on the sweet spot at address. Overall, the putter heads are built for forgiveness with extreme back weighting, and they have fluted shafts near the heads for better feel as the putter swings.
